Cancel the elections
I have been saying for some time that something from some external source will allow Bush and Co to stay in power. I believed that an attack or something similar would cause the population to rally around the administration; however, a friend of mine said it would actually push people away from the administration because they will have let them down -- they would not have been the safety blanket everyone thought he was. Well, now via Buzzflash and Billmon comes this tidbit. Could elections be suspended if another attack occurs? It seems that 3 out of 4 experts say one will happen before our election -- what will the people need to accept martial law (even for, say, a year) to "stabilize" the situation? I don't think we'll need much.
